Paste Tense Decryptor Offline · nothing leaves this device

Your history, open anywhere.

No app, no internet. Bring your key file and your password, and every week you copied comes right back — your words, your links, your photos and files — on a Mac, a PC, an iPhone or an iPad.

This page can't connect to the internet. Nothing you open here leaves this device.

The copy Paste Tense saves for you and the one at decryptor.pastetense.app are the same page, byte for byte.

Open your history in three steps

  1. Add your key file

It's called paste_tense_key.ptkey and sits in your Paste Tense folder. It's locked: only your password or your recovery key opens it.

  2. Add your history

Your weeks and any copied files. The easiest way: bring the whole folder, key file and all.

Drop your Paste Tense folder here Or choose just the weeks and files you want.
    • Type your password or recovery key

The Paste Tense password you chose, or the recovery key you saved. Spaces, dashes and capitals don't matter in a recovery key.

Touch ID only works on the Mac that set it up. Here, use your password or your recovery key.

    Good to know

Where do I find my key file?

In the folder where Paste Tense keeps your history — the one you chose in Paste Tense › Settings › Storage. It's called paste_tense_key.ptkey, right beside your weeks (paste_tense_archive_2026-11-01.txt and so on, one per week).

Easiest of all: drop the whole folder on this page. It finds the key, your weeks and your copied files by itself.

I only ever use Touch ID. Can I open my history here?

Touch ID lives inside the Mac that set it up, so it can't come with you. Use the recovery key Paste Tense showed you when you turned on encryption. Lost it? On that Mac, Paste Tense › Settings › Privacy › Encryption › Create Recovery Key (or Replace Recovery Key) makes a new one. Then this page opens your history anywhere.

Does it work on my iPhone or iPad?

Yes. Open decryptor.pastetense.app in Safari, then choose your key file and your weeks from the Files app — several at once is fine. (A copy saved to Files can't run there: iPhone and iPad only show it as a preview.)

Is it safe to type my password here?

Yes — in a genuine copy. This page can't connect to the internet, so your password, your key and your history have nowhere to go. Everything happens right here, in this page's memory.

Use only the copy Paste Tense saved for you (Settings › Privacy › Encryption › Save Offline Decryptor) or the one at decryptor.pastetense.app. Never use a copy you found in a shared or synced folder: someone could have changed it.

    Does this page keep anything?

No. It saves nothing to this device — no cookies, no storage, nothing. Weeks open one at a time, only when you look at them. Close the tab, or choose Lock and clear, and everything is forgotten.

    For the technically curious
    • The page's security policy (connect-src 'none') makes the browser itself refuse every connection. Decrypted text only ever goes into the page as plain text.
    • Your password or recovery key unlocks the key file with PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 and AES-256-GCM. Each entry and each piece of a copied file is sealed with HPKE (RFC 9180: X25519, HKDF-SHA256, AES-256-GCM); a changed or moved piece never opens, and is counted, never shown.
    • Reads key files of format 1; encrypted histories PTARCHIVE 2, 3 and 4, weekly or the single history from before 1.0; readable histories of format 3, 4 and 5; and encrypted copied files PTFILE 2.
    • The saved copy and the copy at decryptor.pastetense.app are the same file: their SHA-256 checksums match (shasum -a 256 on a Mac, certutil -hashfile … SHA256 on Windows).
    • Needs a current browser: Safari 17, Chrome 133, Firefox 130 or later.
